Multispecies Design Cards

This set of design cards was developed as part of a year-long faculty fellowship from the Center for Teaching and Learning at Pratt Institute. My project was, broadly, about design justice and associated concepts. Throughout a series of surveys and interviews with design students and faculty, I explored this term and its use in both education and practice. As the project evolved, I began to focus it around environmental justice, with an emphasis on multispecies ways of thinking and designing. The end result was a set of design cards (pictured below) that work as a tool for developing ideas for sustainable and environmentally just concepts. The cards work similarly to tarot cards, in that you can draw 1, 3, 5, 7 cards and there are an associated set of questions that guide the use of the cards. This is a work-in-progress that I plan to use in a course on animal-computer interaction and will further iterate on in the future.
